Description This article describes how to resolve a scenario where Radio 0 and Radio 1 are failing and can no longer provide service.
Scope Any FortiAP model that shows this status for Radios with any firmware version.
Solution

Sometimes the FortiAPs cannot broadcast the SSID in both bands. In these cases, it is necessary to verify the states of the Radios. This is an example from FortiAP with a damaged Radio 0 and Radio 1. Login to the FortiAP and execute the following commands:

The FortiAP cannot broadcast any SSID because of this radio status. Possible reasons why some FortiAPs fall into this state include:

 

  1. The upgrade did not follow the path process. Before any FortiAP installation, always check the path firmware version. Sometimes, it is not necessary to directly upgrade the firmware version. See the supported upgrade paths guide.

  2. When the FortiAP was being upgraded, a sudden power outage occurred and the upgrade process was interrupted.

  3. FortiAP was physically disconnected before it completed the firmware installation.

 

In cases such as the above, the reboot action will not work because the ART partition is corrupted. 

 

Some actions that may help include the following:

  1. Re-install the firmware version the FortiAP had.
  2. Open a ticket with the TAC team to validate the status. The final state for this unit may be RMA if it has Hardware Support.
