FortiAP
FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.

Description This article describes how to allow the Mesh link through different radios.
Scope FortiAP under FortiEdge Cloud.
Solution
  1. Verify the FortiAP root and FortiAP leaf are online under FortiEdge Cloud.

  2. Create a Mesh SSID.

       Mesh SSID.jpg

  1. Log in via SSH under the Leaf FortiAP and execute the following commands:

cfg -a MESH_AP_TYPE=1
cfg -a MESH_AP_SSID=MeshSSID_Name
cfg -a MESH_AP_PASSWD= Password
cfg -c

Force the FortiAP leaf to be connected to the 5GHz radio. In this case, the BSSID from the Root FortiAP is needed. To figure out the Root BSSID, execute:

vcfg

Under the leaf FortiAP, execute the command with the BSSID obtained:

cfg -a MESH_AP_BSSID=38:c0:ea:24:0e:81

cfg -c

Note:

If any other Radio should be used, obtain the BSSID of that specific radio and replace the commands for Mesh configuration.

  1. Move the FortiAP leaf to the final location with a line of sight to the FortiAP root
  2. The Root FortiAP can show us that FortiAP leaf is connected as a client using 5GHz Radio.
