FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.
This article describes how to fix common issues that may arise when trying to upgrade FortiAPs using the FortiGuard service. Upgrading a FortiAP is possible once it becomes online on FortiGate.
Scope
A managed FortiAP already online on FortiGate.
Solution
FortiAP starts the upgrade but gets stuck on a previous version.
Solution: Check if there are firmware versions uploaded to FortiGate overriding the upgrade. Try to clear them from FortiGate and try again. Follow the steps provided in this article.
FortiGuard services are not working. Solution: Check the connectivity to FortiCloud using FortiGuard service from FortiGate. Follow the steps in this article.
FortiAPs U431F & FAP-U433F cannot be upgraded using FortiGuard nor manually from 6.2.0 build0220 (6.2.1 to 6.2.2 and or above).
Solution: There is a special notice for these models: FAP-U431F and FAP-U433F firmware version 6.2.2 requires a mandatory change in data partitions, so they cannot be directly upgraded from 6.2.1 to 6.2.2. Follow the upgrade path in the following links:
Attempting to upgrade using file upload, but FortiAP firmware file is not visible on support site.
Solution: Check that the FortiAP has a valid support on FortiCloud. Since FortiCloud Account Services 23.2.a, customers will only be able to download firmware images for products that are associated with an active support contract registered under the corresponding account. To register a device, follow the steps in this article.
Note that this also applies to other solutions as FortiSwitches.
FortiAP-W2 family (FortiAP-221E, FortiAP-321E, FortiAP-421E etc.) cannot receive firmware upgrades from FortiGuard.
