FortiAP
FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.

Description This article describes activating 6 GHz radio on the WiFi 6E FortiAP-23xG and FortiAP-43xG models (Indoor APs).
Scope FortiAP v7.4 and FortiGate v7.4.
Solution

On the FortiGate GUI, the FortiAP may display a 6 GHz radio (R3) status as N/A or Channel 0. To enable the 6 GHz radio with a valid channel, the following debug checks can be done:

  1. The FortiAP 'PoE Mode' should be 'Full' or 'High', a FortiAP in 'Low' PoE power mode may disable the Radio-3 (6 GHz). Refer to the FortiAP datasheet for the PoE Mode requirements: FortiAP Series.

Note: The 'cw_diag power' command on the FortiAP SSH/CLI will display the PoE Mode of the FortiAP.

  1. Ensure the country where the FortiAP is deployed supports 6 GHz frequency for WiFi operations.

  2. Ensure the FortiAP and FortiGate firmware is on the latest 7.4 GA and above versions because the 6 GHz support is enabled for most regions starting FortiOS 7.4.0 and above. Follow the latest FortiAP and FortiOS Compatibility Matrix:

  3. The 6 GHz supports only WPA3 SSIDs (for example WPA3-Entperise), and the Radio-3 (6 GHz) will display a valid operating channel only when WPA3 SSID is mapped to the radio in the FortiAP profile:
