FortiAP
FortiAP devices are thin wireless access points (AP) supporting the latest Wi-Fi technologies (multi-user MIMO 802.11ac Wave 1 and Wave 2, 4x4), as well as 802.11n, 802.11AX , and the demand for plug and play deployment.

Description This article describes a list of things that a Bonjour profile needs to work correctly on FortiAPs.
Scope
  • FortiAP, any model or version.
  • FortiGate, any model or version.
Solution

Bonjour profiles are created to address connectivity issues from APs and Apple devices on the network when making use of mDNS applications, like ScreenBeam, ChromeCast, Apple TV, etc. This traffic usually works on port UDP 5353.

For Windows and Android devices, this Bonjour protocol is not necessary. However, Apple devices do need it to correctly communicate with those applications.

See the FortiAP product documentation (Bonjour Profiles) for more information about Bonjour profiles and how to configure them.

Keep the following two principles in mind to create a valid setup:

  1. The Bonjour Gateway feature on an AP is only applicable for bridge mode VAPs.
  2. Tunnel VAPs are L3 interfaces on FortiGate. It will be necessary to use Multicast routing/forwarding to share multicast service information among these subnets. These are not related to wireless.

Ensure the SSIDs are set up in bridge mode to make things easier.

Note: Ensure that the equipment/devices are compatible with the desired Wi-Fi technology (e.g., 802.11ac, 802.11ax, 802.11n). Based on the compatibility, create a FortiAP profile that matches the supported Wi-Fi standards. Creating a FortiAP profile | FortiAP / FortiWiFi 7.6.3 | Fortinet Document Library.

If issues are encountered, open a new ticket with the TAC team and include the following information:

From FortiGate:

  • A copy of the configuration file.
  • An explanation of which VLANs are used in the communication.
  • The results of the following commands from an SSH or console session to the FortiAP:

cw_diag -c bonjour

bjconf

bjallow
