Description This article describes troubleshooting steps to check whether a PSU is faulty.
Scope FortiADC hardware.
Solution

PSU stands for Power Supply Unit.  This component is mainly the one that is responsible for powering up the device.

Sometimes, the power unit does not behave as expected, and some event logs about the PSU will be received.

Some units come with a single PSU, while others have more than 1 PSU, which is helpful in scenarios where one PSU fails.

Below are the possible ways to check a power supply for FortiADC:

  1. Check the power supply LED (at the back of the FortiADC unit). Small units do not have PSU LEDs, as they have a small built-in PSU.

The PSU LED can have a different color, and each possible color has a different meaning. These details can be found in the QSG documents for the particular Model.

Below is the Output for a 1200°F unit example:

  • Green: Power supply operating normally.
  • Flashing Green (1 sec): AC input but in Active-Standby mode.
  • Amber: Input power failure; however second power supply is operating normally.
  • Off: No AC input.

  1. Latest EVENT logs. If there are two PSUs and one PSU is dead, the unit will still be working, and logs about the power supply issue will appear in the event logs.

Details for event log interpretations can be found in Log Reference FortiADC 7.6.3.

  2. Run the below command to check the stats of the hardware (PSU, FAN, CPU temp, etc).

For further details, see this document: execute hwmon.

execute hwmon

CPU Temperature:
        Core0 Temp: 46.000000 C

Fan Speed:
        FAN1 Speed: 8520.000000 RPM
        FAN2 Speed: 8280.000000 RPM
        FAN3 Speed: 8280.000000 RPM
        FAN4 Speed: 8040.000000 RPM

System Temperature:
        Sys Temp1: 29.000000 C
        Sys Temp2: 30.000000 C

PSU Status:
        PSU 1 [not detected]  <-
        PSU 2 [detected]  <-
            Speed  : 6464.000000 RPM
            Temp   : 25.000000 C
            Voltage: 12.093750 V

The main things to check are if the PSU is detected or not detected, or the Speed and Voltage.
