FortiSwitch Centralized Management

Hi Management Team,

Does Fortinet have a way to centrally manage a FortiSwitch(s) without a FortiGate? Also is there a way for a FortiGate to manage a FortiSwitch if it is not direcly attached?

I do not beleive there is any other central management product other than FortiLink - which does require a FortiGate and a direct connection, as far as I know of.

It could be managed centrally through the Fortinet API, or through automation of CLI commands via a central server. Both of these options would require coding to be viable.

FortiSwitch Central Management via FMG will come in FMG 5.4.x.

Will be for FortiSwitch attached to FGT devices via FortiLink (so basically FMG will see and manage what is seen by FGT)

With regards to connectivity between FGT and FSW, with current versions FortiOS 5.4.0 and FortiSwitchOS 3.3.3, it's necessary for each FSW to have a dedicated connection to a dedicated FGT interface (it can be via a L2 switch).

With FortiOS 5.4.1 and FortiSwitchOS 3.4.0 (expected mid-Feb), there will be support for inter-switch links, which then allow multiple FSW to be controlled via a single interface on FGT.

Hi,

is there any plan to have FortiSwitch managed by FortiCloud, like a FortiAP? It would be very useful in pure access projects, without any FortiGate, but just Wired and Wireless access.
