Azure Site Recovery integration in HA

Hello,

Do our FortiGate VM's support this feature?

https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/site-recovery/

I've gone through Fuse, tickets, etc but can find no mention of it. From looking at it I would assume and think that its applicable only to the hosted VM instances behind the FortiGate Azure VM at the present time.

Would this assumption be correct?

Thanks in advance.

Blair

Hi Blair,

This feature is primarily for replicating applications out of physical data centers. As such, I imagine FortiGate HA could be a part of the custom recovery plan. However, even if you replicated FortiGate virtual appliances from a physical data center, the differences in Azure networking would require extensive modifications to get them functioning after recovery. I would guess you could add FortiGates as part of the custom recover plan, although I’m not sure how flexible that is.

They have enabled Azure to Azure site recovery in preview now. However, it doesn’t support managed disks. Managed disks are required for improved reliability, so FortiGate virtual appliances in Azure use them. I would guess eventually Site Recovery will allow the recovery of managed disks, but for now this wouldn’t work.

Martin
