Description This article outlines the key aspects of transferring units/devices using the Asset Transfer option.
Scope Asset Management Portal, SSO.
Solution

'Asset Transfer' option is available in FortiCloud Portal, which will allow the transfer of eligible assets from one FortiCloud account to another upon both the Org admin of the Source and Target account agreeing to it.

The transfer can be performed through 3 easy steps. Refer to the document: Asset Transfer for the detailed steps.

A Seamless Process: The users can complete the action through the Self-Serve option without the need to create a Customer Service Ticket or provide proof.

Key Points:

  1. The 'Asset Transfer' feature is accessible ONLY by Org admin (Primary) account users, and for Partner/Distributor accounts should log in to connected accounts to see the Option.
  2. All regular Hardware and Virtual Machine Serial numbers can be transferred using this feature.
  3. Account-level services such as TAM contracts, Cloud services (FortiClient EMS Cloud, FortiSASE, FortiEDR, FortiPoints, FortiAnalyzer cloud, FortiNAC, etc.) are not eligible. Reach out to Fortinet Customer Service (cs@fortinet.com) for more information.
  4. For FortiGate HA Cluster models, the individual hardware serial number of device 1 or device 2 cannot be used for 'Asset Transfer' token generation. Only the Logic serial number/Virtual serial number should be used. Sample of VSN Prefix: FGT90GHAXXXXXXXX/.
  5. If two standalone hardware devices are configured in HA (Primary/Secondary), an Asset Transfer token must be generated for both devices to ensure simultaneous transfer, preventing license desynchronization on the FortiGate GUI.

How it works:

  1. Allows the Source Account user to either upload a file or manually input multiple SNs (up to 25) to generate an Asset Transfer Token. To upload a file, the ‘file template’ should be downloaded from the link provided on the screen.
  2. On the Source account, once the system verifies the SN's eligibility for transfer, a 20-character transfer token will be generated, valid for 5 days. Example: TRXJBHZOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
  3. The Target user should log in to the FortiCloud Portal to redeem the transfer token to have the assets transferred to the account.
  4. Once the asset transfer is complete, the Registered user will receive a notification email.

'Asset Transfer Token' cannot be redeemed in the following instances:

  • If the Source account user has disabled the Token code.
  • If the token has expired, i.e., 5 days from the creation date.
  • If the token is already utilized.
  • If the owner of the device has been changed, i.e., the Token generated when the product was registered to account 'A', however, the ownership is changed to account 'B' through GUI transfer or by Customer Service before the Target user can redeem it.

If the user experiences any errors while generating or redeeming the Token, a Customer Service ticket should be submitted with a snapshot of the error. Following verification, Customer Service will carry out the transfer in line with Fortinet's policy:
Global Trade Compliance
Fortinet Legal
Fortinet EULA
