Extended detection and response for SAP

SAP security expert SecurityBridge and Fortinet, the leading network security provider, announced a strategic Fabric-Ready alliance to deliver SAP security intelligence to the FortiGate platform. The partnership has been formed to help organizations reduce lapse time, where threats exist in stealth mode until an attack or malicious activity targeting SAP is detected.

Additionally, SecurityBridge provides full insight into the complex world of SAP security. The SecurityBridge platform empowers customers to optimize their SAP security posture.
According to research from the Ponemon Institute, (on behalf of IBM) the average time required to identify a data breach is currently 197 days, with an additional 69 days on average to contain a data breach.

In addition to this alarming statistic, the report also states that the global average cost of a data breach is 3.86 million USD and that 52% of the data breaches are caused by malicious attacks.

According to the Data Breach Report, companies can save an average of 1 million USD by containing a breach in less than 200 days. The Fortinet and SecurityBridge alliance aims to reduce the time needed to detect and react to SAP security incidents by the creation of a unique one-platform strategy.

Valuable time is lost when an ongoing attack is detected without any knowledge or insight into the targeted environment. The network team identifies malicious activities but remains unaware that the target is the SAP landscape.

As SAP systems are at the very core of an organization’s digital backbone, this represents a serious threat to the enterprise as SAP systems process mission-critical operations. For example, they might store and process credit card data, payments, personal employee information, customer master, amongst other business-critical data and trade secrets.

Consequently, the availability and the integrity of the various SAP systems play an essential role in realizing the organization’s revenue targets. SAP SE’s products are used by more than 430,000 organizations. 77% of the world’s transaction revenue is processed by an SAP system. Therefore, securing the SAP environment should be a priority for any CISO.

Despite the criticality, without the required network intelligence and an established process, SAP security experts cannot be notified or be proactively involved once the SAP landscape is in the scope of a threat actor.

SecurityBridge provides an innovative, certified, natively integrated, and holistic security platform for SAP. SecurityBridge customers continuously monitor security-relevant activities across the entire SAP technology stack. It can apply sophisticated detection patterns to check for anomalies and trigger actions with FortiGate for immediate response. This enables customers to identify and react to breaches just in time to prevent critical damage to businesses.

Combining the capabilities of SecurityBridge with FortiGate, is a major step towards the One-Security-Platform target, helping customers eliminate the existing barriers across different competence centers. Customers benefit from advanced visibility and threat intelligence across their SAP landscape and accomplish broad protection, even without the deep SAP expertise.

“Our combined expertise has led to the creation of a roadmap for many more integration use-cases, all addressing common problems and designed to increase SecOps efficiency for organizations running SAP.”,  said Ivan Mans (CTO, SecurityBridge)
