Question

Wireless point to point bridge not passing traffic

We have setup a point to point wireless bridge using 2 FAP234's as the parent and leaf AP's. The wireless bridge is intended as a backup route to a fibre connection should it go down. A diagram below shows the setup;

We are however having issues in that the wireless bridge does not pass traffic when the fibre link goes down, and although I do have a TAC case open, I'm hoping a member of the community could review the setup and point out anything that could be causing the problem.

One thing to highlight is that spanning tree is enabled on the switches that the AP's are connected to. Should spanning tree also be enabled on the AP's themselves, or is that managed by the switches?

Any help is welcome.

there are few things need to check:
- stp status when the link is down

- is the wireless port is coming up after stp timer?

- First AP is passing traffic to remote site?

Just adding to Sahmed reply. You need to troubleshoot when the fiber link is down.
Basically, what are the STP ports status that both AP are connected to when the link is up and down?
Another simple question, have you tested the wifi point-to-point link before connecting it to the switches?

Thank you both for your replies. We'll review the STP status on both sides when the fibre link is down and provide feedback.

In answer to DPadula's question, yes we tested the wireless bridge in our lab environment before deploying to site.

Curious if you ever came to a resolution with this. We’re considering a similar solution, and I’m finding that Fortinet doesn’t seem to have a true L2 Wireless Bridging solution. Would be grateful if you could share any experiences how this worked out for you in the end. Thank you.

Hello,

Unfortunately we had to abandon the idea and provide resilient fibre links instead.

We do have point to point wireless bridges out in the field that work remarkably well, but not in a setup where they are required as a resilient backup option.

Hope this helps
