Hello,

You have to contact your distributor and ask him directly. He will have to explain why.

Hello
Indeed, there're  established dates for auto-activation; it is not a technical problem.
go back to your reseller, he should have known and  he should offer you a solution

hope it helps

I heard the initial support/contract would start counting down when Fortinet products were put on the shelves of the first level distributors. Almost nobody has control for the starting time unless you’re an “insider”.

Hi ashraf7825,

What you are seeing is expected behaviour under Fortinet's current Service Contract Activation and Grace Period Policy, not a defect or a technical fault.

Since 1 July 2025, hardware-bound service contracts (FortiGate included) auto-start once the grace period expires, if nobody registers them before that. The grace period is 60 days in the US/Canada and 90 days in the rest of the world (EMEA/LATAM/APAC). The decisive point: the clock starts on the date Fortinet ships the service or generates the service contract number, not on the date the unit reaches the reseller or you.

So an activation dated 02-2026 means the 40F sat in the distribution channel, the grace window lapsed unregistered, and the contract auto-started at that point. By the time you bought it on 14-06-2026, roughly 4 months of the term were already consumed. There is no setting on the box to change this, because it is a contract/licensing event, not a device configuration.

On a solution, be realistic about what is and is not possible:

  • There is no self-service way to reset the start date. Only Fortinet Customer Service can adjust it, and only via a ticket opened by your partner. Under the new policy, goodwill resets are rare.
  • The actual lever here is commercial, not technical. Go back to the reseller. They sold aged stock without flagging the already consumed coverage. A co-term extension or a credit is something they can offer you. Fortinet itself will generally not move the date.
  • For future purchases: always check the entitlement and registration status against the serial number on the Fortinet support portal before you accept the unit.

As others have said - issue to be resolved against your VAR. Normal practice is the delay accounted for shipping, especially if you are not close to FTNT distribution centers - when we buy a unit we buy for a client, but it takes few weeks for Fortinet to actually supply it, which is covered by grace period. Provided grace period of 60 or 90 days, plus add 4 months means this unit shipped from FTNT to your VAR half a year ago, a bit too much for shipping and logistics delays.
