Web Filter and App Control in Fortigate and Forticlient

Hello,

I have an FG50E in an office with ~100 computers and I am studying the possibility of deploying Forticlient on those computers. The ability to establish compliance rules and require that all computers have the same AV and perform periodic vulnerability checks are good enough for me.

I realized that the web filter and the application control in Forticlient are the same as in Fortigate, am I wrong? If it is, what is the purpose of activating these protections in both FG and FC? Maybe some kind of "offloading" of processing needed by these security profiles if you enable it only in FC?

Greetings, Pablo.

Does my question is incomprehensible or nobody knows the answer? :)

I am going through something like this now.

The primary benefit is that you can enforce application control and web filters even when the computer is not on your internal network. You can enforce security policies for machines that are connecting in over a VPN and drop/block connections that don't pass compliance tests. It is also possible to set up policies that offload content inspection to the forticlients if you have a smaller box but there are some caveats.
