Warranty on Fortigate hardware without subscription

Some of my clients does not need filtering, they just need a router. I'm thinking of suggesting Fortigate hardware without a subscription pack for them. Have few queries regarding the same:

1. What's the hardware warranty without a subscription ? 2. Can I buy a care pack for extended hardware warranty when the same expires (without subscription), which support pack will I need ? 3. Does VPN work with the base box ?

I mostly want to use the SDWan, firewall, and VPN features for such clients. Am I thinking out of way, are there customers who go down this path. Pls chime in with you comments.
