Upgrade: Fortigate 311B => Fortigate 201E

Hello,

 

I need a replacement for a cluster of 2 Fortigate 311B. Therefore I´d like to use the Fortigate 201E series.I´d like to replace the whole cluster with activated LACP and dual HA ports, i.e.

- imagine two 311B devices, each with:

[ul]
  • 4x 1GbE interfaces (with LACP) to WAN
  • 4x 1GbE interaces (with LACP) to LAN
  • 2x HA ports connecting both units[/ul]

    - Looking at the 201E units, they have:

    [ul]
  • Only 1x HA port?
  • Only 2x WAN ports?
  • 14x RJ45 ports
  • 4x SFP ports[/ul]

    So, my questions about FG201E would be:

    [ul]
  • Are those ports on the FG201E created equal?[ul]
  • i.e.
  • Can I use any of those ports for HA?
  • Can I use any of those ports for WAN?
  • Can I use any of those ports for LAN?[/ul]
  • What about the following example configuration, would it be possible?[ul]
  • For WAN: ports "WAN1" + "WAN2" + ports 1,2,3,4,5,6 (in LACP mode)
  • For HA link: ports 7,8,9,10
  • For LAN: ports: 11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18 (in LACP mode)[/ul][/ul]

    i would be very careful with this 201E model (any new model in general btw), it is brand new, probably won't be running GA software from the start and you might be among the first to find new "features".

    Hi,

    Yes, you can use any interface for the HA heartbeat. 

    And even combine different interfaces for the LACP.

    - When you add the LACP, it shows the list of interfaces which can be added.

    Important thing is to make sure that the speed of the interfaces which you bind should be same to avoid issues in real time.

    You can use every interface for every type of cabling but please remember that, usually, HA interfaces and MGMT interfaces are not ASIC accelerated (we have to see for the new 200/201E though).
