Unable to connect with FortiClient VPN on Dell Latitude 7350

Hi all,

To summarize, FortiClient does not work on Dell Latitude 7350, because of the Intel BE200 card.

I can't get the prompt for the token.

In the logs, I can see "no response from the peer".

It works on wired connection, and it works also with an external USB wifi adapter.

Apparently, FortiClient and the Intel BE200 card are incompatible. What can be done in this case?

Why would a WiFi card have any impact on a VPN client?  How exactly did you arrive at that conclusion?

It works if I open a connection via an other wifi card (adapter).

Try to change the driver or downgrade it.

I have tried the last driver provided by Dell, and also a newer one provided by Intel. I will try to find an older one.

Try to uninstall the current dell or intel driver and install the driver recommended by windows, this worked on our laptop which uses the same wifi card. The notebook in question are the Dell XPS 13.

I tried this. Windows installed an Intel driver, but not the latest one. But Windows 11 is the latest version, and that might be the problem, I will try to get an older driver, not officially compatible with this laptop model.

After hours of investigation, I give up. FortiClient definitely does not work on this PC with this wifi card. I will provide the user with a wifi dongle (and in this case it works).

This may sound bizarre but I was having similar issues. Installed Wireshark and it suddenly started working. Tested this on two laptops with the intel AC 9462 card and it works perfectly fine now

Probably Wireshark has installed some network library.

Hi - I had the same issue and fixed it by upgrading to Forticlient 7.2.4.0972. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad Carbon Gen 12 with the Intel BE200 card. I am running the 23.80.0.7 driver for the WiFi card (which may be a Lenovo driver rather than Intel?).

For reference, Forticlient would connect over ethernet with no problems. Forticlient would not connect over WiFi, regardless of the WiFi network used. Forticlient would connect on other devices on these WiFi networks (albeit with different WiFi cards) - so the networks weren't the problem.

I had previously tried downgrading to all available Intel drivers for this WiFi card (23.40, 23.50, 23.60, 23.70) and Lenovo's own drivers (23.80.0.7), and this connection problem persisted. I had tried many different changes to the WiFi settings, network bands, etc. and the problem persisted.

The answer for me was upgrading to Forticlient 7.2.4.0972. I hope something similar works for you or anyone else with a similar problem.

As a side note, Forticlient will still not connect if I am on the internal office staff WiFi (all other WiFi networks including the office guest WiFi appear to work). I have given up trying to fix this minor issue as I don't require the VPN when in the office, but it's strange because others (with different WiFi cards) don't appear to have this issue.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, we use the last version of FortiClient, 7.4.0.1658. Maybe I should try version 7.2.4.0972 but I don't know where to find it.

We got the same issue on Dell 7450 Wi-Fi 7 BE200 with FortiClient 7.2.4.0972 and 7.2.5.1047 interim. Exhausted all the troubleshooting options. Tried the Wireshark trick too, but no luck. Fortinet support determined it's the card.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

There's something new. Another person tried to connect to the VPN yesterday, also on a new PC, but a different model (Latitude 9450 2-in-1). It seems that FortiClient no longer works on Dell PCs that are too new, or with the very latest build of Windows 11...

Is the "no response from the peer" error related to the network card, or could it be caused by FortiClient settings?

I GOT IT WORKING!

  • This was a brand-new Dell Latitude 7450 that came with Windows 11 and the Wi-Fi adapter is Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200 and FortiClient could not connect.

I decided to install Windows 10 Pro for sh*ts and giggles because I've exhausted all troubleshooting steps. I used Dell Command Update to install all the drivers. For Intel Wi-Fi BE200 I have driver version 23.60.1.2 dated 6/3/2024. Not sure if that's the same version that was installed when the laptop was on Windows 11.  Once I had the drivers updated, I installed FortiClient 7.2.4.0972 and got connected successfully.

UPDATE: I tried Windows 11 again just to confirm, and sure enough, I'm back to not being able to connect. Same driver version for Intel Wi-Fi 7 BE200. So, the fix is to install Windows 10 for now.

Hi, may I ask - is the problematic Windows 11 professional version or home version? Thanks

Hi, Windows 11 Pro. I can be available for screen sharing if you want to review.

Hey,

I thought i would share our exact same issue and how we resolved it.

We tried everything but in the end what fixed this for us was Dell replacing the motherboard. So if you have warranty on the laptop, then ask Dell to swap out the MB and then test again.

Hope this helps.

What Wireless adapter does it show after the motherboard was replaced and is it Windows 11?

Hello,

Windows 11 with Wifi 7 adapter may not be able to connect to IPsec VPN.

This is being worked on by our Devs Team with Internal Case 1079047.

Hey Bon,

We have multiple Win 11 with Wifi7 cards working, we only started having issues once we change the configuration from a 16GB to a 32GB Latitude model but the motherboard swap has resolved this for us.

When was this case opened?

Do you have an expected resolution date for this fixed to be available?

Thanks.

The case was opened Sept 2024.

Devs aim to resolve in next FCT 7.2.6 release, still unsure yet if it is able to make it in time for mid-Nov2024.

Looking at the discussion, some customers have good success when use the driver version 23.60.1.2 for Wifi 7 BE200 adapter:
