Traffic generator to test firewall rules

Hi all, I' m looking for a " FREE" software that allows me to build custom packets to test firewall rules. Please no M$oft ;) It would be nice if I could also test the max nr of sessions of a box in realtime with this software ( I know that there is a software around with a session mirror but I can' t find it) Greetz Ghostshell

    Well, if you really want to build " custom" packets, then you should be looking at different Linux utilities. Personally, I just use Telnet and nmap to check my policies.

    ttcp generates a LOT of connections ettercap can create custom IP packets (if I' m not mistaken) opensta can mimic several HTTP users.
