Question

sniffer packet via 2 routes

Hello,

I have an issue with a flow on my fortinet.

when I route a specific host via mgmt interface, I cannot see the traffic passing via diag sniff packet but when it is routed via another interface I can see it.

Do you have any idea about this behaviour?

Thank you :)

mgmt interfaces are not meant to be used to carry user traffic. Dedicated to management only.

    Hi elyes,

Management port is designed for terminating traffic onto the firewall which provide out-of-band management. In some cases if you need to pass through traffic via mgmt port and get the sniffer packet information. You need to maker sure:

    1. Unset dedicted-to mgmt, other wise traffic would be dropped.

    2. Start sniffer before the traffic initiated. In many FortiOS devices hardware acceleration is enabled by default. So once the traffic was offloaded to NP, you would not be able to sniffer any packet, even if the traffic is still passing through.
