Question

Single FortiSwitch unit managing a stack of several FortiSwitch units

I have a FortiGate firewall and 4 Forti Switches. I want to configure the switches in stack mode, with one switch acting as the primary and another as the backup (secondary). I do not want to manage the switches through the FortiGate firewall. I want to achieve stacking similar to how Cisco switch stacking works. If it is possible please post here.

Hello @Sivabalan_G ,

This feature is called MCLAG on the Fortiswitch ecosystem. You can review that document for configuration and detailed information about redundancy.

https://docs.fortinet.com/document/fortiswitch/7.6.1/fortiswitchos-administration-guide/860027/mclag

and if you want to have full stacking, a FGT is needed to centrally manage the switches, more details and topology types can be found here.

Hi @ebilcari

Thank you for your prompt response,

Happy New Year,

The document you provided is related to managing several switches in the FortiGate firewall, but my question is whether stacking can be maintained on one of the stacked switches themselves.

Thank you for your prompt response,

Happy New Year,

I understand this; I have the same concept in mind. Do you have any documents related to this?
