Question

Recycle an old unit

We have recently retired an old Fortigate 200. We' d like to try converting it to a rack-mount " desktop" . I do a lot of remote work and am usually working around other schedules to get access to desktop. This would help a lot and allow us to recycle the hardware. Has anyone out there tried loading Windows onto a Fortigate HD before? Or even know if it is possible?

I am about 10,000 miles from the customer I support. I remote to a desktop machine. (Actual computer in an office.) We would like to set up their old Fortigate unit with Windows XP. This would allow it to be rack-mounted and out of everyone' s way. And I won' t have to fight someone else for use of their computer. :) Just trying to think outside the box and reuse some old equipment. Does this explanation help?

Why don' t you sell the 200 on eBay, and take the proceeds and buy a used P.O.S. beater machine. They are dirt cheap nowadays...

Why not update the firmware to ver 3.0 MR7 Patch 2 (latest release) and use SSL VPN? The web portal has an RDP client (java) If you setup full tunnel mode you can use applications installed on your local machine.

His issue is he doesn' t need the unit as a firewall, and he does need a workstation....
