Hello Community:

any idea of strategy for the migration of FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer managing an SDWAN architecture of concentrator in HA and spokes from a VM of a Service Provider to my Data Center with physical appliances.

Best regards

Migration can definitely be a bit of a headache, but it’s usually smoother if you take it one step at a time. The most important thing is making sure your backup versions match up perfectly before you try to restore them on the new setup.

If you're moving to a different hardware model or a VM, just keep an eye on the interface mapping, as those can sometimes shift around during the import. Doing a test run with a single device or a smaller ADOM first is usually a lifesaver to catch any weirdness before moving the whole production environment. Has anyone else run into issues with logs not appearing immediately after the FortiAnalyzer IP change, or did it sync up pretty quickly for you?

Hi @SkylarDe:

FAZ was not particularly difficult to handle, in my opinion. However, FMG appears to be significantly more challenging. My team is concerned about the potential impact on the forwarding layer during the management transition.

Could you please provide a brief summary of the recommended steps for migrating FMG? The forwarding layer consists of an HA concentrator and approximately 300 spokes, so we want to ensure a smooth and risk-free migration.

Best regards

Carlos

Hi,

Migrating FMG is rather more simple than FAZ.

You can take config backup of FMG, redeploy in new environment, restore the config backup.

In case the IP address of FMG is going to be the same in new hypervisor then no change is required on the FGTs they all should start communicating to the FMG.

In case you are changing the IP address of FMG then after restoring the config use the reclaim tunnel command in FMG and FMG will attempt to connect to the FGT (provided that FMG is not behind NAT and can reach FGTs, plus FMG has FGT admin credentials).
