Question

Migrating from Fortigate 201E to Fortigate 601F

Hi,

We are about to migrate from a Fortigate 201E to Fortigate 601F where we have about 20+ APs connected and managed through the Fortigate. Fortigate 201E is currently running firmware v6.4.8 build1914 and APs are running these depending on AP model:

PU431F-v6.0-build0028

PU431F-v6.2-build0220

FP431F-v6.4-build5760

My question is, if we are replacing this firewall (FG 201E) with FG 601F, will FortiAPs automatically download a compatible firmware version for the new FG? Or will the not be able to create a CAPWAP tunnel to the new Fortigate? The new Fortigate 601F is running  v7.0.9 build4777.

Thank you!

You should use the same 201E running Firmware version for the 601F migration first.

After the migration and capway done, upgrade to 7.0.9 then

Hi! Ok wow thank you for that. :) But that makes sense. However, so when I upgrading Fortigate to 7.09 with the APs connected to it, will them at this point also get upgraded simultaneously as well?

Hi,
FortiAp's will not download automatically the compatible versions, refer the below link for your reference to check the compatibility.

Hi thank you.

I have looked into that before but I found this in FG (see image below). But maybe in this case the AP will not even be able to be discovered by FG since they doesnt running a compatible version?
