License Transfer

Hello,

 

I am skeptical of purchasing a registered and licensed FG-60 F (  expires  12/2025  )  but need to know if the license can be transferred to a FG-300E .

 

Am upgrading from Cisco ASA5540 to Fortigate FG.

 

Please advise.

When you want to use an unlicensed FortiGate 300E, you can use your box without the security feature. For example, web filter,av,ips, DNS filter, etc., will not work.

 

Almost all features (Policy, routing,ssl-vpn,ipsec-vpn etc), except UTM, should work without a license. 

 

I think Cisco ASA also doesn't have these types of security features. Because of that you can use FortiGate 300E instead of Cisco ASA.

You can't transfer your license between different types of FortiGate models. They should be same model.

Can the unlicensed 300e replace the ASA as a firewall and if so what functions specifically do the license unlock ?

    If I purchase a BRAND new fg-100F - does it come licensed ?

    Hello @fgrep2seed ,

     

    It depends on the type of what you buy. If you buy 100F with a UTP or ATP bundle license, yes, it will come with a license. But if you just buy a box, this box will come without a license. You should buy a separate license for box.
