HTML 5 VPN Portal

I am looking for a new UTM solution for our small company and wanted to know how the SSL VPN Portal worked. Some documentation I read stated that a java applet was required but that was for pre 5.4 version. I then read in one forum post that 5.4 did away with that and it was strictly HTML now but could somebody verify that for me?
