How to configure a FortiGate as a L2TP over IPSec client

I am new to Fortigate.

For certain reasons, I want to configure a FortiGate as a L2TP over IPSec client, however I am not sure whether it is possible.

I saw this Technical Tip:

FortiGate as an L2TP client - Fortinet Community

but it does not mention the IPSec-related configuration. Can someone tell me?

There's no config that enables L2TP/IPsec as a singular package. The option in the linked article deals with pure L2TP, with no IPsec encapsulation.

What you can try is set up the IPsec underlay tunnel first, then try editing the resulting IPsec interface and enable l2tp-client there. Maybe that will work.
