The easiest way that I have found to block these sites is to only allow specific traffic to leave your network. Ex. allow port 80 traffic from Int > Ext. don' t allow everything. Most of your radio sites and streaming media sites require a connection to be established on a completely different port number (typically well over 10000).
Even if you block everything but port 80 many services stream their music/videos right over port 80. The FortiGuard service is more effective but still misses many. The most effective method is to scan at the application level with an IPS scanner. Fortinet doesn' t support this through its IPS signatures. Other IPS' s do.
If you signed up for Fortiguard Web Filter, then setup a protection profile and go to " Fortiguard Web Filtering->Potentially Bandwidth Consuming-Streaming Media" and make sure the radio button under blocked is selected. (Make sure Fortiguard Web Filtering is enabled)
Try blocking *.asx files, we tried this for one of our customers who didn' t want their users to view video streaming over windows media and it worked fine. for more info on this check this website http://www.webreference.com/js/column51/asf.html
Yes same problem with me. Is there no way we block streaming music and video, without Fortiguard-Web filtering? I tried to block *.asx files but to no avail. Still there' s streaming music coming in.
