Fortiswitch to Dell S Series layer 3

I am trying to connect a Trunk/LACP be tween a Fortiswitch 248e POE and a Dell s3148. The Port channels are and ports are up, the default gateway is configured but it will not pass layer 3 for some reason.  Is there a gotcha that I am missing --
