I guess it is a matter of taste, but yes, the change is quite dramatic. I found out that blue theme works a bit better for me, I mean it is less aggressive for eyes.

I'm not sure the change was initiated by tech people, it is presumably more modern and fresh. At least that seems to be an idea behind it.

The color was shocking on the eyes, but it has grown on me.

I for one am glad to see UI features such as Policy\Policy\Policy finally gone from the my life.

+1 The unaliased font makes my eyes bleed.
