FortiNAC Unreachable – Switch Behavior and VLAN Fallback

Hello,

I would like to understand the behavior of the network when FortiNAC becomes unreachable or stops (service down).

In this scenario:

  • What happens to the access ports on the switches?
  • Do they fall back to the default VLAN automatically?
  • Are already authenticated endpoints still allowed to communicate, or are they impacted?

Also:

  • What are the best practices or recommendations to handle this situation?
  • Is there a way to ensure continuity (fail-open vs fail-close behavior)?

Any feedback or real-world experience would be appreciated.

Thank you.
