fortilink networking question

i have about 10 fortiswitches that i will be connecting to a fortigate head end unit.  will i need a separate subnet for a transfer/net/ forti link network ?   what is best practice here?

    By default, the FortiGate will use 169.254.1.1/24 (or similar) for the FortiLink interface. You can a different subnet if you wanted to.    We keep the default Fortilink settings and add the switches to our management VLAN for SNMP, NetFlow, etc.
