what difference between FortiGuard updates and firmware updates

I think you mean by FortiGuard updates the signature updates (AV, App Ctrl, IPS, ISDB and so)

On the other hand the firmware update is the FortiOS itself, the operating system (and all its software components) that is running on your firewall.
