Hi, I am facing a very strange issue with one of our Fortigate 60 unit. It was working perfectly fine for last 6+ months then I upgraded to V3 which was also working fine for over a month, but now all of the sudden, this device stop functioning. All the status lights appear to be active but LAN or WAN doesn’t work. When this happens this until is not accessible via any method. However if I turn it off for sometimes then it start working for few hours then dies again. The CPU and RAM usage is always within the green area so that is not a problem and I use this until only to enable/disable WAN traffic. Could someone please suggest what could be the cause or may be someone has solution for this. THANKS

This could be a number of different things, including the FG going faulty, however, have you changed any infrastructure around the fortigate. Is it possible that a new switch has been introduced conneted to the FG, perhaps the ports on the switch are going into an error disabled state. When the unit goes offline can you get console access. If so perhaps you should look at the interface status at the time. If you cannot get console access either then the fg must be hard locking in some way. Maybe if you attach a console permanantly to the FG and turn on logging in terra term or hyper terminal, maybe you will get a meaningful error message from teh console prior to lock up. If none of the above work, I suggest raising a fault ticket and RMA the unit.

when you' ve a window time to put off line this box, try to: . connect via console, you can use as guideline the article: http://kc.forticare.com/default.asp?id=338&SID=&Lang=1 Format boot device (option F) and load a new fresh firmware compatible with your last working backup configuration. . After recovery the box, you could restore your config. If you can' t recover your box this way, follow doshbass' s advice for one RMA procedure.

Before RMA' ing the unit, it would be helpfull to run the HQIP firmware to check the fortigates hardware. When the HQIP firmware is finished you will be presented with a report of how everything checked out hardware wise. If it passes you know its probably not the firewall, then you can start checking everything else. Go here for more info: http://emea.fortinet.net/fortinet/aht/index.php
