FortiGate Firmware Upgrade

Hi,

 

Im planning to upgrade a cluster and the current version is 5.4 and im planning to go to latest 5.6

 

Which method would you consider safest?

 

Downloading the recommended upgrade path versions and doing it manually?

 

or

 

Upgrade from fortiguard following the upgrade path which basically everything will happen with minimum intervention?

    If there is not yet a config on the cluster you could upgrade directly or automagically.

    If it already has a running config you need I'd recommend following the upgrade path specified by Fortinet.

    Do the manual steps, take backups after every intermediate step, check, go on.

    This is independent of this being a cluster, or a standalone unit. Cluster upgrade really runs smooth, slave first, fail-over, master then, everything automatically.
