Fortigate Configuration Compatibility

I understand you want to know if configuration file taken from one model can be uploaded and used on another model. May configuration backup from 40F if it can be uploaded to 80F.

Since both are different hardware models, configuration backup from one model cannot be directly uploaded on another model. However you can use Forticonvertor tool which can convert your configuration file of one model to another.

Short answer, it is not supported.
The same config file can only be restored on same model & same FortiOS version.

To convert config file from different model/version to another, you can consider FortiConverter service:
