FortiGate 7.4.8 - FortiSwitch Ports, view is screwed

Since upgrading FortiGate to 7.4.8, the "FortiSwitch Ports" section is totally screwed.

It sorts the switches based on god knows what and if there are a lot of switches, it lags out when using the search field.

Also, it is no longer possible to edit the description of multiple ports at once.

Is anybody else experiencing these issues and is there anyway of reporting this to the devs, so that the old view is restored (since this worked with 7.4.7 and downwards)?

Hi @jfridolf-iver

Could you please share a picture or video of your issue? May I use your configuration to test it in my lab? If possible, please send it to my official email: bhoang@fortinet.com.

Additionally, if you already have a support ticket with Fortinet, please share the ticket number as well. I'm Bill from Fortinet. Thank you!

Bill

Here is one of our Fortigate v7.4.9 Fortiswitch-Port pages. This used to be sorted alphabetically. Not sure now what it's sorted by as the serial numbers aren't in order, nor model numbers, nor topology path, nor IP address.

It looks like sorted per device, if you prefer to rearrange the port listed, try the screenshot I have attached, I don't have any FortiSwitch connecting to FortiGate, this is just an example

Also try to see whether you can add an extra column that contains the 'name' of ports

I've figured it out...

The move cannot be done in the GUI. It must be done in the CLI as follows...

    config switch-controller managed-switch
move *switch-id [switch to be moved]  before/after  *switch-id [corresponding location switch]

So in my case it was as follows according to the previous image I posted.

config switch-controller managed-switch

move User1 after Server2

Hope it works for you....

It's the same as going in to the "Managed FortiSwitches" - choosing "Topology" view, and then using the "reorder" feature.

The problem then continues if you have multiple layers and multiple Core-switches :(
The main issue here is connected to the fortilink stack view, and how the switches are arranged there.

In the older versions the "name" was a choseable field to have visible in the "fortiswitch ports" view, and thru that you could sort on the name.

So the easy fix, is for Fortinet to restore the configuration used from >7.4.7 for this functions in later firmware.

Hi @jfridolf-iver ,

Is there any chance that you can share me screenshots of before/after the upgrade? I'd like to see the differences between them, then I would check further.

Regards,

Harry

Same here on 7.4.9

Cannot find a way to change the sort.

Also, in addition when you use the search feature, the results aren't highlighted any more.

Hi csheward,

Thanks for the details.

In v7.4.7, when you use the search box it both:

  • Filters the rows to show only entries matching the keyword, and

  • Highlights the matching text.

In later versions, the behavior changed:

  • The search box still highlights matching keywords,

  • But it no longer automatically filters the rows, so all entries remain visible and it can look like the search “isn’t working” at first glance.

To get a similar result to the old behavior, it’s more reliable to:

  1. First use the filter icon (the “+” icon to the right of the search box) with a general keyword to narrow down the rows.

  2. Then use the search box again with a more specific keyword.

This combination will show you the expected entries and make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for (Refer the attached screenshot)

Regards,

Harry

Still can't sort any lists in the GUI. The items in the list just appear in a completely random and illogical order. I want to quickly scroll and see what things are doing overall to catch any anomalies, or do something simple like find an unused IP address in a list of devices. Why was this basic feature removed?
