Fortigate 30E v5.6.3 Critical Internet Client Access Outage with Local Packet Loss

Hello Group:

Issue:  inherited an EOL FG 30E from a business with no documentation or guides of the unit.

Priority: Critical
Time to Resolution: ASAP

Context:
Business is a small Family Pharmacy and all critical devices/users requiring secure internet access for Pharm operations.

Problem Statement: Client web access is kb/ps to websites and timing out.  External clients were experiencing the same attempting to remote to site.  Unsure if unit is cabled or correctly configured correctly from LAN to WAN currently.  They do have internet access connecting directly to AP bypassing Fortinet 30G with fast response.  This device/configuration has functioned fine in past and operation only been in existence for a year.  NO configuration documentation, no 30E installation or configuration guides, and can’t locate specific due to Support expired 2019 and EOL March 2027

Need:
Pay for configuration troubleshooting services as required.
Documentation of Installation/Configuration of device.
Recommendations to replace 30E with similar/current unit of <50 devices/clients.  WAN is 1000Mb/ps

Environment: FortiGate 30E
Version: 5.6.3
LAN /WAN Interfaces IP’s configured correctly
LAN Device/Clients: 1000 Mb/s with Static Addresses
SD WAN: N/A
WAN: Spectrum Cable modem 1000Mb/s w/wireless 4 port AP
VPN Tunnels to other Pharmacy Sites
Packet Shaper: 1000Mb/s Max bandwidth with 0 utilization

FG Cabling:
LAN Port 1 is connected to network switch to internal devices
WAN Port is cabled to AP port

Troubleshooting Steps:
Examining factors from things that are most likely to influence issue to least likely.

Primary Internet carrier equipment with WAN/LAN ports (No Wireless AP WAP) was added and configured in FG. Unsure if FG WAN out wired to WAN port or LAN port or vice-versa
Primary Internet equipment replaced with business cable modem and WAP and new carriers network configuration IP’s, etc changed.

5/2 -
modified Network DNS address to provider provided servers.
Cabling modification of Modem WAN out->FG Wan IN FG Port 2 to AP out.
Result: No internet speed change
Pinged the WAN IP and 0% packet loss
Pinged a device on LAN and received 40% packet loss

Examined configuration with very limited knowledge

Current:  I’m now logged remotely into the device with very snappy response which has not been the case most times.  Extremely appreciative and grateful to obtain operational status ASAP
