Fortigate 200B firmware versions and problem

Hello, We have a problem with a Fortigate 200B. From time to time, no traffic passes through it, and we have to reset it to bring it to life. I wonder if a firmware update could help, but I have some doubts about firmware versions. In the fortinet GUI -> System -> Status, it says " v4.0,build5088,091118 (MR1)" , and in our account in " support.fortinet.com" , it says " FG200B-FW-4.00-178" . So, what version is installed ? I would like to download the newest version, I can see it is 4.2.1 b0279, but some of you recommend 4.1.6 b0205 instead. Is this Patch 6 ? What should I download ? And finally, if I update through Fortigate GUI remotely, will I loose my settings and therefore the communication with the unit ? Thanks in advance

Hi, For production use i would recommend 4.00 MR1 Patch 6 (4.1.6). If you want to test the new GUI and features, try (4.2.1). Read the release notes beore on what upgrade path you should take, if doing correct, you should NOT loose any configuration, but you will loose connection while it is upgrading and rebooting.

i would say 4.00 MR1 (no patches) upgrade to 4.1.6 as it is very stable.

I' m running a fully loaded network, on a 100MB pipe, with clients and servers with a 200B without any problems and with the latest MR2 Firmware... And i can say, this fortigate is a beast!

To verify branche point (Build nr) of new models that normally come with a 5xxx firmware number, you should enter: get system status and you' ll see the build number is corresponds with. I agree with Selective use 4.1.6 for production. Unless there is a absolute necessity to use 4.0MR2 features or unless you want to run unstable firmware and make your life more daring. As 4.2 goes, wait for 4.2.2 that will be release very soon. Cheers, Eric

Hi, Thanks to all for your answers. About MR2, I can read there are more opinions recommending 4.1.6, so, 4.1.6, and maybe later MR2. Thanks to all again
