FortiClient will not install because Bitdefender

I am attempting to replace an installation of BitDefender with FortiClient. When doing the install, I get to a point where it tells me I cannot install it because it is still detecting the bitdefender install. I was unable to uninstall BitDefender and had to uninstall it manually, first deleting all the files, then using a tool from the makers of bitdefender to remove it. Bitdefender is gone. There is nothing left of it besides a few regestry keys. How do I convince the forticlient installer of this?

Registry keys need to go. It is likely just the main group HKEYLOCALMACHINE->Software->BitDefender that needs to go.

FortiClient searches for registered AV products in Windows Security Center. Check if Bitdefender is still registered. See the Microsoft knowledgebase article: A security program is still listed in Windows Security Center and in Action Center after the security program is uninstalled http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980867
