Forticlient VPN not installing with no error

A user is trying to install FortiClientVPN, but after the "Downloading image" process completes, the setup wizard does not launch — nothing happens, and the process simply stops.

 

We tested with different installers and on other devices within the same environment, and the installation worked correctly for all other users except this one. Also other apps can be installed with no problem.

 

The Windows Event Logs show the following entry:

Which Windows version?

Try by downloading the full image of FCT VPN 7.4.3 directly from support portal.

Also try older version, like 7.2.10. You can also find it on support portal.

    Hi,

    We've tried installing it using different Windows versions — both the latest one and the same versions that other users have successfully installed — but none of them worked.

     

    We also tested older versions of FortiClient, but encountered the same issue.

     

    Today, we attempted to install it using the offline installer, which skips the "Downloading image" process, but the setup wizard doesn't open at all.

    Hi,

    I experienced the same installer bug only in one of my machines (fresh Windows 11 installation, first VPN installation, no apparent reason for conflicts...).

     

    No wizard after executing online installer FortiClientVPNInstaller.exe (last version), and the same after executing offline installer FortiClientVPN.exe found in C:\Users\%User%\AppData\Local\Temp

     

    But I found a log in that folder, FortiClient0000#.log (number increases for each trial). Inside the log there is a reference to an .msi installer in a temporal folder: "C:\ProgramData\Applications\Cache\{15C7B361-A0B2-4E79-93E0-868B5000BA3F}\7.4.3.4726\FortiClientVPN.msi” (GUID and version will be different for you).

     

    And this last installer, FortiClientVPN.msi, finally launched the wizard and successfully installed the software.

     

    Fortinet should fix this bug soon.
