Hi, I'm using FortiClient VPN for conneticting to a customer's VPN but I can't receive any bytes:

Same username and password on other PC work and every username and password on my PC don't work.

I tried disabling/closing: firewall, antivirus, teams, onedrive, ...

I have the default settings of Windows 11 and I'm using FortiClient 7.0.7.0345.

VPN configuration is correct.

Could someone help me please?

Thanks in advance

Francesco

Hi Francesco,

Looks strange and not sure why it is behaving like that. Anyways on a side note, I will also try these.

- Check with older versions of Forticlient.

- Check windows routing table on your machine. This might gives you some clue.

- Check Windows updates and also try to update ethernet adapter drivers.

regards,

Sheikh

- Windows is updated and even the ethernet adapter driver

Same problem, 0 bytes received.

Any other ideas?

Hi @francescobalatti

Please login to support.fortinet.com. Click support >>Firmware download >>>In the select Product filed, choose Forticlient. Click Download >>>Windows >>>V6.00 or V7.00>>>Click relevant folders for V7 or V6>>>Now select the branch version for which you want to download and in the next screen, you will be shown a list to download Forticlient application.

regards,

Sheikh

We are having the same problem, but it's not related to a windows update. It does the problem at random on our computers. We are having 1 or two case per day. Usually, waiting about 10 minutes before reconnecting solves the problem.

We have no idea why it's doing that. We don't have access to the VPN network when the received bytes are at 0. It's not a DNS problem because we can't ping IPs either. Our Forticlient VPN is version 7.0.7.0345 but we've been having the same issue with previous versions.

Note : we are on Windows 10 22H2, not 11

Would be interested in a solution.

Thanks!

I don't have installed KB2693643, but I have the same problem, Bytes Received 0 and the session is disconnected. Any idea what could cause the problem?

I've had the same problem for about 3 years and never been able to figure out why. Sometimes it works, but when it doesn't, it'll nail up the VPN but not receive any data. It also seems to be on retail WiFi for me. I've checked if there were overlapping routes and all kinds of things. Even know folks in the places it doesn't work and have seen their firewall/router/ACL configs. Nope. This is a Forti-problem.

Same problem here ever since we started using FortiVPN. Intermittent problem, I might have the problem to day on my device and tomorrow my device will work fine, only to have the problem again next week.  While I have the problem, others are able to connect.  While I can connect, someone else will have the problem. On most days, everyone can connect.  But this is still a problem - my answer to users can't be "wait until later and try again".  It has noting to do with routes, etc... I/P v4 isn't loaded upon connection, although IP v6 is loaded.

The issue you're experiencing, where FortiClient VPN isn't receiving any bytes despite the correct VPN configuration, can be due to a few different factors. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot this issue:

1. **Check Network Connection:** Ensure that your internet connection is stable and working properly. Sometimes, intermittent network issues can interfere with VPN connections.

2. **Reinstall FortiClient:** Uninstall and reinstall the FortiClient VPN. This could help in case there are any issues with the installation.

3. **Check VPN Settings:** Although you've mentioned that the VPN configuration is correct, it's worth double-checking the settings. Ensure that the IP address, username, password, and any other required parameters are correct.

4. **Try a Different Network:** If possible, try connecting to the VPN from a different network. This can help determine if the issue is related to your network.

5. **Check for Software Conflicts:** Some software might conflict with the VPN connection. You've mentioned that you've tried disabling the firewall, antivirus, Teams, OneDrive, etc. Consider if there are any other software applications that might be interfering.

6. **Check VPN Logs:** FortiClient should generate logs that could give clues as to why the connection isn't working. You can check these logs for any error messages.

7. **Update FortiClient:** If an update is available for FortiClient, consider updating to the latest version.

8. **Check with IT Support or VPN Administrator:** If you're connecting to a customer's VPN, it might be worth checking with their IT support or the VPN administrator to see if they can provide any insight.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might want to contact Fortinet support for further assistance.

Hi !

Had the same problem on Ubuntu.

- bytes recieved 0

- I could disconnect but never reconnect afterward

I used NetworkManager CLI to list all connections `nmcli con`

A dozen "vnp00xxx" connections were open while Forticlient was disconnected.

I closed all "vpn00xxx" connections with `nmcli con down vpn00xxx`

Then I could connect again and receive bytes :)

What OS are you using?
Did you try killing VPN connections as told in this comment?
