Forticlient not updating on OS X

I just installed the latest Forticlient client on OS X, and I cannot update the database.

Do I need to connect the Forticlient to a Fortigate for this to work?  Or should it update by itself (and maybe there is something wrong with this particular client build not going out my main interface?)

Any help others could give me would be greatly appreciated.
