Experience with AV scanning of SMB traffic

Does anyone have any experience with AV scanning of SMB traffic and it's effectiveness? Specifically in 6.0.

 Can it identify malicious VB scripts in a word document for example?

Also around performance impact.

I'm aware of the challenges around SMBv3 and am also aware of the new features n 6.2
