Deploying fortigates at scale

Can anyone here share their experiences with deploying this firewall at a medium scale? Right now at my place of work we have a few hundred and are told we must deploy them first in a safe isolated rack, to disable to switching features, then have them installed in their forever homes. This really increases the total deployment time and I'm trying to figure out how to streamline this.
