Can't connect to server. Error -8

Hi everyone,

I have recently installed FortiClient 5.4 in a virtual machine running Windows 7 in order to connect to an external VPN. I have configured the settings of the connection (VPN-SSL), and I receive the email with the FortiToken correctly. However, once I try to log in using the six digit code, I always get the same error message (I'm from Spain, so this is more or less what it says): "Unable to connect to the VPN, VPN server may not be available (-8)".

Also, in the logs I get the following message: "msg=SSLVPN tunnel connection failed (Error=-8)"

At first, I thought that the origin of the problem was the server, but they have used my credentials from another network to check them, and apparently it worked. I don't use any antivirus program in the host, and Windows Firewall is completely disabled. Any leads of what could I do to solve the issue?

Not a sure solution, but since Windows 7 is a bit older, have you tried an older client on those machines?

I'm suffering the same issue in a different physical machine (so I can rule out that it was caused by the fact that I was using a virtual machine instead of a real computer). I can also confirm that it's not a problem related with my network, because I have been to able to connect to the VPN installing FortiClient in a Windows 10 system (but I really need to use Windows 7 in the future, so using Windows 10 it's not a solution).

Any ideas about how to solve the problem?

Not a sure solution, but since Windows 7 is a bit older, have you tried an older client on those machines?

Hi,

I hadn't thought in that solution, but it may work, thank you, I'll try it.

However, I can't find any older version of FortiClient in Fortinet's web. Is there any way to obtain a previous version from the developers page? I have found several installers in external websites, but I would prefer to get it from the official source instead of other less secure webs.
