Can FortiGate 201G Fully support 7.6.x

Yes, FortiGate 201G supports version 7.6.x and 8.0.0

Note: Every version might have some issues and might have different impact for every customer depending on his network topology. It is updated in the release note under known issues. We would suggest you to go through the release note of the specific version once before you upgrade and analyze if it would have any impact on the services you are using.
 

Please note that the SSL VPN feature is not supported only on FortiGate G-Series entry-level models like 50G, 70G, 90G and variants.
 

Important: Although after upgrading 201G to FortiOS v7.4.12, By default, the SSL VPN Web Mode and Tunnel Mode features will merely hidden from the GUI(if previously not configured), but the SSL VPN configuration already exists and is enabled in the configuration. In that case, SSL VPN service will continue to operate normally and existing users should still be able to connect. 
 

As per the below document attached, it has explained the behavior of Upgrading devices with SSL VPN already configured to 7.4.1 or above. Kindly verify:

Note: It is highly recommended to upgrade the FortiGate firewall in a maintenance window. 
 

How to enable the SSL VPN settings to be visible on GUI, kindly run the below configuration:

set sslvpn-web-mode enable

config system settings
set gui-sslvpn enable
end

To upgrade from FortiOS 7.2.x to FortiOS 7.6.x, you must follow a supported upgrade path. Upgrading directly from 7.2.x to 7.6.x is not supported; intermediate versions are required

For your specific FortiGate 201G running v7.2.x, you must use the Upgrade Path Tool to determine the exact intermediate steps required. Access it at:

Important Considerations Before Upgrading

1. Verify Current Firmware Version

Run get sys status on your FortiGate to confirm the exact build number of your current v7.2.x firmware.

Before upgrading the FortiGate, verify compatibility with your FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer. These must be upgraded before the FortiGate, following this order: FortiManager → FortiAnalyzer → FortiGate
