7.4.11M - unable to bulkedit service in policies

Hello support-team,

recently we've updated our 600F to 7.4.11M release.

Now I'm wondering why the ability to edit the set of services that are used within more than one policy is gone. That feature improved administration and is necessary in my opinion.

I found article 330663 for bulk editing a few items of a policy but services are missing. Is there an option to enable editing the services in bulk?

Best regards

Sebastian

Hello again Sebastian,

I found this answer, can you tell us if it helps, please?

Bulk Editing Services in Policies

In FortiOS, the ability to edit multiple policies simultaneously can significantly streamline administration tasks. However, as of the latest updates, the ability to bulk edit services directly through the GUI is not explicitly mentioned in the provided context. Here are some insights and potential workarounds:

Current Capabilities:

  • Bulk Editing Other Attributes: As per the context, you can bulk edit certain attributes like status, source, destination, and security profiles using the new policy layout in FortiGate v7.4.0 and later. This is done by selecting multiple policies and applying changes to these attributes.
  • Script-Based Editing: For more advanced bulk editing, including services, you might consider using scripts. Scripts can be applied to policy packages to make changes across multiple policies.

Workaround:

Using Scripts: If the GUI does not support bulk editing of services, you can use CLI scripts to apply changes to multiple policies. This method requires familiarity with FortiOS CLI commands and scripting.

Steps for Script-Based Editing:

  1. Create a Script: Write a script that specifies the changes you want to make to the services in the policies.
  2. Apply the Script: Use FortiManager or directly on the FortiGate to apply the script to the desired policy package.
  3. Verify Changes: After applying the script, verify that the changes have been correctly implemented across the selected policies.

Follow-ups and Clarification Questions:

  • Are you familiar with using CLI scripts on FortiGate? If not, guidance on writing and applying scripts might be necessary.
  • Do you have access to FortiManager? This tool can facilitate the application of scripts across multiple devices and policies.
  • Would you like detailed instructions on writing a specific script for your needs? If so, please provide more details about the changes you wish to make.
