Description This article describes an alternative process to upgrade a FortiWeb 400E model from firmware version 6.3.3 when an error about a wrong image file is received.
Scope FortiWeb 400E 6.3.x.
Solution

When the administrator tries to upgrade from version 6.3.3 to 7.4.11 or another upper version, the device may consistently enter the 'The image file is wrong, please check the version, build number, model and partition table' state.

In this scenario, the admin can try the following procedure to upgrade the FortiWeb:

Recommended steps:

  1. Log in to the GUI and back up the configuration. Go to System -> Maintenance -> Backup & Restore.

  2. Log in to the FortiWeb console. Note: Bootloader access is only available via the console.

  3. Reboot the FortiWeb from the console. Run 'execute reboot'.

  4. Monitor the console output. When the messages 'FortiBootLoader' and 'Press any key to display configuration menu...' appear, press any key to enter the bootloader menu.

  5. Provide the required information in the bootloader menu e.g. TFTP server IP, image file path, etc.

  6. Wait for the firmware upgrade process to complete. The FortiWeb will automatically reboot upon success. After a reboot, the admin password will be reset to blank.

  7. Log in and set a new password.

  8. Reconfigure basic network settings: port1 IP address, static routes, DNS.

  9. Log in to the GUI and restore the previously backed-up configuration.
