Technical Tip: License updating of HA pair

Description

This article describes how license can be updated if it is a HA pair.
Scope FortiWeb VM.
Solution To update the License on FortiWeb, it is necessary to move mouse over the license tab on the GUI and it will display the option of update VM license as shown in the screenshot below.

However, this is not the case when an HA pair is used.

In the current HA design, FortiWeb uses the serial number to identify each member in an HA cluster.

Uploading a new license will trigger a Serial Number change, adding a new member to the existing cluster.

 

When devices are in HA, there is no option for 'Update VM License' upon selecting a VM license in the dashboard.

 

As a result, the upload license action has been limited in standalone mode.

Workaround:

  1. Disconnect the target member from the HA group. Then, upload a license and rejoin the HA cluster.
  2. Alternatively, use a TFTP or FTP server to upload the new license.
