Technical Tip: How to upgrade the FortiWeb-VM license for more vCPUs

1. Log in to FortiWeb-VM as an admin user via the web UI.
2. Go to Dashboard -> Status
3. In the Licenses widget, select VM License.

Note: The license can only be updated when the unit is Standalone. See Technical Tip: License updating of HA pair.

4. Follow the instructions in GUI to upload the new license.

5. Once this is done, the FortiWeb will reboot. After rebooting, confirm that the new license has been installed by checking the Serial Number

6. In the CLI, it is possible to verify this and also confirm how many vCPUs are assigned to the VM by running 'get system status' and 'diag hardware cpu list | grep processor' commands

7. Next, power off the VM instance by selecting Shutdown under System in the top-right menu.

The virtual appliance will flush its data to its virtual disk and then prepare to be powered off. Skipping this step and immediately powering off the FortiWeb-VM may lead to the loss of buffered data.

8. Increase the vCPU allocation. For details, see the FortiWeb-VM Install Guide.
9. Power on the virtual appliance again.
10. CLI can be used to verify that the VM is running with increased number of vCPUs.
