Technical Tip: Recording in FortiVoice audio format

Description

This article describes how to make a recording in a format supported by the FortiVoice phone system.
Scope FortiVoice.
Solution

Use these recordings for Auto Attendant or VoiceMail greetings. This method can be used to record audio that can be played on a computer, or loaded as 'on hold' music in the FortiVoice.

 

The prerequisites are:

 

Once the program has been installed and the microphone is connected, record the greeting.

 
Audacity cannot natively record audio in a supported format FortiVoice requires, which means adjustments need to be made in the software, as described below:
 
  1. Select Edit and then Preferences to reach the Audacity Preferences window.
  2. On the Devices tab, change the Channels drop-down menu to Mono.

  1. In the Quality tab, change the Default Sample Rate to 8000 Hz (this is the 8KHz part of the required format). Change the Default Sample Format to 16-bit.

  1. Select OK.

Press the Record button when ready to start recording the greeting. After concluding the greeting, press Stop.

The completed recording can then be saved in a format to work with the FortiVoice.

 

  1. Select File and choose Export.
  2. Next to Save As Type, choose Other compressed files.
  3. Select Options.
  4. Change the Encoding drop-down to U-law. Select OK.
  5. Choose the directory in which to save the recording and then select Save.

The recording will be in a format that can be loaded into FortiVoice.
